If You've Used a Comb Punch & Binder Before, Great! If Not, You Might Want to Start With a Different Machine
As many of the other reviewers stated, the directions that came with this machine weren't exactly crystal clear. Having had zero experience with binding machines before I found it tricky to figure out initially, but my mom, who is a paper-crafting pro had no problem getting this to work. Once you use it a couple times it does get easier since you'll know what you're doing.
One thing I did find a little aggravating was that it'll only punch 12 pages at a time but will bind much larger quantities of pages. If you're self-publishing the family cookbook for a Christmas present or binding picture books that kids in class have created themselves, this is wonderful. If you're trying to seriously create say a metric ton of staff or training manuals you might want to save your money and just go to Kinko's.
But if you're a do-it-yourself kind of person you'll probably enjoy using this machine.

Customer review : Bad instructions, Good machine
I've used a comb binding machine before so I am familiar with how they work. This machine by Fellowes is sturdy (weighs 10 lbs.), sleek and attractive looking, however, it is not intuitive. Sadly, the included instruction manual, despite a number of illustrations, is just terrible. If I didn't already know how these machines work, I would have been very confused. But once you figure it out, it works splendidly.
You will need to buy the combs that you use to bind documents with. This machine accepts the following comb sizes:
1/4" (6mm) - holds 2-20 pages
5/16" (8mm) - holds 21-20 pages
3/8" (10mm) - holds 41-55 pages
1/2" (12mm) - holds 56-90 pages
5/8" (16mm) - holds 91-120 pages
11/16" (18mm) - holds 121-150 pages
